May 15,’13:  Over the past 20 years, which blaring headline have you seen most often – “Elvis Is Alive” or “Rush Is Dead”?   A close #3 might be “McDonald’s Scuttles McRib”.   None of the three ever pans out.   Like Old Man River and the Energizer Bunny..... El Rushbo just keeps on keepin’ on and the beady-eyed pointy-teethed libs just keep on fussin’ and fumin’.   They’re at it AGAIN..... and its ANOTHER mainstream media misfire. .......

May 12,’13:  Its been almost two weeks and “the rings” have not thrown the solar system out of kilter; but I suppose a few words are due.  In the all-important “rivals” category, there was an announcement of some import this past week. ..... a Miami Heat fan redefines “complete idiot”.   A Triangle sports media icon makes a move..... and yours truly completes an epic trek – It’s RIMSHOTS ......

 May 8,’13:   Which analogy do you prefer?  The Star Wars cantina? ...... a carnival sideshow? ...... a circus parade? ......casting call for The Walking Dead?  Pick any one of’em to describe the latest series of Loonies Aplenty that have descended on the NC General Assembly. 

With His Imminence Billy Barber as Ringmaster, a slew of agitated crazies have kept the legislative security force busy lately, and local observers asking “Who ARE those people?” .....

May 4,’13:   This past week outgoing UNC@CH Chancellor Holden Thorp sat down for an extended wide-ranging one-on-one interview with legendary Chapel Hill media mogul Jim Heavner (WCHL et al).  Jim played “Mike Wallace” and Holden was  extraordinarily candid as he prepares to see The Old Welll in his rearview mirror.   I’ve listened to every word and am offering you that same opportunity.

The likelihood of you listening and actually changing your carved-in-stone opinions are marginal at best regardless of what your opinions are.    Nevertheless, I DARE you to listen.

May 3,’13:   No more “..... saaaaddd days for North Carolina” ???  'Tis with profound lament that I must report the departure from the NC General Assembly of Deborah Ross (D-Wake) ..... aka “Chatty Cathy” aka “Cruella” aka “Debbie The Dem Diva”.  It just won’t be the same without Deb’s flowery flatulent filiblusters on evey single issue..... yes EVERY SINGLE ISSUE. .......

May 2,’13:  He was an 18 year old Hoosier high school hotshot.  In the Spring of 1950, young Neil joined the US Marine Corps.  Six months later he was on the frozen killing ground of The Chosin Reservoir......  Mike would leave his young wife and two young children on Monday morning.  He could not say where he was going or when he might return.  He was going undercover in the very real, very dangerous world of international drug smuggling...... Horace and I played semi-pro baseball together in the mid 60s.  That was before he became a Green Beret and before something called Tet..... Clark was a police detective in the deadliest city in the state.......

April 30, '13   Recovering from cataract surgery.....
