AP: "Never Let A Good Tragedy Go To Waste"

AgentPierceSaid:  Dec 15, '12

To paraphrase that infamous political operative Rahm Emanuel - “Never let a good (crisis) tragedy go to waste”.  Rahm was reminding his Lib/Democ foot soldiers in their War on America that, regardless of the abject horror of any situation, there is always some political advantage to be gained.
Well I guess “poor taste is better than no taste at all”.  Rahm’s media sycophants (aka "tragedy profiteers") listened and learned.

The Party That Cares (about winning elections) was mobilized within minutes of the Connecticut school tragedy.   The sounds of the police and EMT sirens were still wafting thru the Sandy Hook community when the liberal drive-by media began their oh-so-predictable “it’s those crazy right-wing gun-nuts fault.....” attack mantra.

Here we go again:

On the Left - Blue America which claims:

“Those millions of aborted babies”..... aren’t “real babies" (?)
VERSUS.....

On the Right - Red America which claims:

“Guns don’t kill people”..... but crazy people with guns often do. (!)

From that baseline it gets really bee-zarre.

Our world / our society, is an ever increasingly complex drawer-full of Gordian Knots.  If you don’t know the historical significance of a Gordian Knot then imagine a mountain of millions of unsorted socks and you have to separate and sort them.... and they are all either black or navy blue..... and you are wearing oven mitts..... and its dark and its raining.   A bunch of screamin’ lunatics are standing over you yelling HURRY UP.

Beware the all-knowing fool who screams – “It’s simple.  All we have to do is _______.” ..... Or the pollyannas who bemoan - “why can’t we all just get along?”  ..... Or the toxic haters who is certain – “it’s all ‘their’ fault!”   Toxic haters come in all partisan shades of toxicity with many different definitions of “their”.

The grim reality is that America and the world are an ever leaning Tower of Babel.  As the tower tips ever closer to totally collapsing we are all screaming at one another in so many “unknown tongues”..... screaming and pointing fingers.

This Connecticut School Shooting set a new record for mainstream media foolishness.  Within two hours of the first report, USAToday’s website had a headline – Lebron James’ Reaction to Connecticut Tragedy.   Lebron James’ reaction was headline-worthy???  ..... to be fair to Lebron, that article had tweet quotes from a dozen other pro athletes.   Thankfully, all dozen think it was a very horrible thing to happen. Jeeezzzzz.

No doubt somewhere in the cyber universe The Kardashian Klan, Carrot Top, and Flo The Progressive Insurance Shill were expounding their deepest thoughts.  Carrot Top and Flo ..... ??

If it was ever God’s intention that we “all get along” and there be no unexplained evil in this world, that possibility was shot to hell (literally) when Eve ate the apple.   You “don’t take the Bible literally” folks can go with that however you please.

Soon after Lebron (and The K-girls et al) had gone public with their shock, the Center For Overused Adjectives declared total gridlock relative to words in the English language for shock, sorrow and sympathy.

If there is a Diogenes out there searching for one person NOT shocked and sorrowed by this horrible tragedy, I don’t envy him his assignment.

Make no mistake about it – this latest tragedy will NOT go to waste.

Elected demagogues are furiously practicing their ability to tear-up on cue and reviewing hurriedly crafted DEMANDS that “Something MUST be done and done NOW !!!  Accompanied, of course, by the obligatory harrumph, snort, fist shake and podium pound.

The targets of those “somethings to be done about” are, of course, those damned aforementioned “them”.

The ubiquitous Tragedy Profiteers are always the "second responders".  TV-Documentarians are already shooting b-roll.  Chroniclers are scrambling for advances on the plethora of post-tragedy books sure to be published.  Production assistants for The View are booking every grief-stricken family member in Sandy Hook and/or outspoken gun control advocate.

Don’t worry Rahm...... this latest tragedy will NOT be wasted..... sigh.

As a retired paratrooper, etc., I can tell you that if it don't fire on automatic, it ain't an assault weapon. In Vietnam, we initiated any action - offensive or defensive - with full automatic fire just to gain the upper hand in the argument, then shifted to controlled fire as needed. Sometime in the late '70s or '80s, the service weapons were modified to fire only a three-round burst, probably because the tech solution was easier than teaching fire discipline to the youngsters then coming along. Whether that was because of the quality of the recruits or the quality of the trainers, or just to satisfy the government bean counters, I cannot say. The commercially available versions of these weapons only fire semi-auto...no rock n roll, no three-round burst. All I can say is, if I am forced to defend my home, I do not want to be using a bolt-action hunting rifle, because I can almost guarantee you that whomever I am defending against will most likely not be under the same handicap.

AP: "forced to defend my home...." and therein lies the crux of the whole issue of "gun control". As the entitlers gain political power, at what point will their zombie mob march on my lonely farm house... and all I will have to defend my family is a plowshare .... :-(

AP,
Can't quite figure out what difference it makes if you silently grieve (or don't) or whether you express it with emotions. I am the GF of two young GC. My 6 YO GD looks so much like Emile Parker that I did tear up. I teared up in church when the minister tried to make us understand. I listened to Huckabee when he said that we have pushed God out of society for decades and now ask, "Why did GOD permit this?. I am glad that our President quoted from the bible and recognized that God exists.....especially since all the money he is printing has "In GOD we trust" on it.
I own firearms and have for almost 60 years. I taught my kids how to use and respect them. I wonder if the folks that will expell a child that makes the sign of a gun can explain why it is OK for the suspended child to play Call to Duty or the Dungeone or any video game where they use all sorts of weapons of mass destruction.....while the child is on suspension for playing "cops and robbers" . We did that at recess and we never had mass murder thoughts.
Nancy Lanza was a Prepper who probably did not vote BLUE. Her son, per all the articles, was identified as having mental issues in the 9th grade and was on a "watch". The counselors and security people were afraid that he would be BULLIED and was not a threat. So much for the professional diagnosis.
He, very errily, acted out the Jedi training center massacre in Start Wars 3, Revenge of the Sith.
Most of the folks that read hear understand the difference between a semi and fully automatic firearm and know that fully automatic firearms have been regulated for almost 60 years.
What they are afraid of is a very narrow definition of an assault weapon in legislation. Common sense could tell us what that is, but the government has to define it and then some activist court will expand it to include the clothes pin guns that I made in the 5th grade that shot an ear of corn.
Rahm's quote in the 2008 WSJ article about exploiting or never letting a good tradgey go to waste in order to further your agenda has been on my mind since the shooting occurred. What is really interesting is the crime statistics in Chicago and the fact that Rahm asked the "gang leaders" to help out....but never talked about disarming them like the citizens of Chicago are. I also think back to the Tourist murders and home invasions in Florida which prompted the passage of one of the earliest CCW laws. Now, Florida, relatively speaking, has the lowest crime and homicide rates in the US.
Red will be pitted against Blue. Social Media is organizing the Progressives to march on the NRA HQ. Pity that they do not feel inclined to march on the HW moguls and gamers that give us such violent movies and games in which mentally challenged individuals eventually lose touch with reality in......

rowdybluetarheeler
did the shooter spend much time playing violent video games?
_________

AP: Is that a euphemism for "listening to talk radio" or "watching The View"? He was clinically insane. I'm not sure what the insana do or think about as they do it.

If he ate a lot of Twinkies, THAT solution is already in the works.

You failed to mention that all those unsorted socks are in the dirty sock bin, making the task even more yucky. How soon will we see LeBron and the K-girls on the Sunday morning talk shows, fielding Bob Schieffer's piercing questions (pun intended)?
____________

AP: Between Lebron, The K-girls and Whoopi Goldberg surely these tragedies can be resolved.

I'm sorry. Perhaps the question I asked was cloaked. I thought not.

You were moved to write a piece... thoughts that are a bit quite like those circulating my own cynical brain.

I get that. But I wanna know ...Did you weep?
__________

AP: No, but I did not "weep" on 9/11 either. Is "weeping" the single measure of caring v uncaring people? I thought that's why God created lapel ribbons and bumper stickers.

The Cowdog
I get your piece...I understand your piece more than someone you don't know could, maybe.

But, I gotta ask you Pierce.

Did you weep? Did you offer up tears to humanity?
_____________

AP: Do you mean did I wear a lapel ribbon??.... or a helmet decal??.... or "tweet" my condolences?? .... or similar "look at me I'm sorry all these innocent people were massacred by this insane person. Aren't I sympathetic?"

No, I didn't do those.
FWIW: I also wrestle with the ambiguity of both the abortion and gun control issues.

I was at the mall today Xmas shopping and I saw one or two people that made me a little nervous given the past few weeks..
___________

AP: I believe I saw those same people earlier today.... brrrrrr!

There used to be places called insane asylums or institutions where these people might get help or at the least society might be somewhat protected from their untamed aggressions. But now they roam freely. They are afforded little or no help and we are afforded no protection. We can't judge them---we have to celebrate their diversity. There is no longer such a thing as a moral compass. A spade is not a spade and a wacko is not a wacko unless there is something in it for the elite fools among us. A gun, conservative musings, violence-----Katy-bar-the-door. Screw the libs----they crap on everything they touch.

AP: In Raleigh we turn our mental institutions into "tourist destinations". Dorethea Dix weeps.

I'm confident in guaranteeing this is the only Connecticut Tragedy commentary that mentions Flo & Carrot Top. Kudos!
___________

AP: I'd like to think this one is unique in that regard, but you never know!
