BobLee Says

Tale Of Two Stadii: "almost the worst of times."

Sept 9,’13:  I did the ol’ Triangle Two-Game on Saturday – Amid The Lofty Pines o’ Kenan @ 12:30 then The Carter @ The Fairgrounds at 6:30.  I had a most very fine time all day long.  Started my fine day with The Fabulous Comparato Twins and, ten hours later, concluded it watching The Immortal sweat bullets as his beloved Wuffs barely dodged a fatal spider’s bite.

As Charles Dickens’ said about his “Tale of Two ........ "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, ....."

I’m not sure I would go so far as Dicken’s Syndey Carton did as he addressed Madame Guillotine - "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known." ..... But it was pretty darn good.

Our Good Sports’ interview with The Fabulous Comparato Twins – Nicole & Paige established a new lofty benchmark for Darn Incredible Pre-Game Show Interviews.

NOTE: Herbie & Musberger trying to get a single sane comment out of "rapper" Eminem was not “pre-game”.  That was a half-time (ND v Michigan) fiasco.

That Fabs interview is available HERE – CLICK.

Where else ya gonna learn:
(1)    Why there’s no confirmed picture of Jennifer The Tutor and
(2)    Why Skye Bolt is more of a UNC BMOC than Bryn Renner..... or PJ.
(3)     ..... and other really cool stuff too.

The Fabs were MAH-velous as I knew they would be.  I did lose my over-under bet with WCHL Legend Ron Stutts though.  I bet Stutts we would get “at least a dozen” irate listener complaints that Chansky & I were sexist pigs.   Only five..... so far.   One counts double since it came from a quite indignant UNC Journo-School professor-ette.

"Professor-ette" .... Uh oh!  You wanna talk "sexist" woman?  I'll show you "sexist" by golly.....  I turned that one over to AgentPierce.  He’s going to invite the she-professor to Waffle House and trick her into believing he’s a talent scout for Roger Ailes at FoxNews.   Good luck with that, Pierce.

Nicole & Paige were Terrif.... and Chansky managed to set fire to the loonies on InsideCarolina.   Art referred to the NCAA as “a billion dollar joke” as regards Manziel Mess et al.

The IC goobers somehow thought he was slamming The Butcher (?) and the carnage commenced.   I had to remind Art that “quelling a blood-fest on a fan monkey board is like trying to blow out a flare.”   Just leave it alone until it burns out of fuel.  Ignorant b*****ds.

I was, as always, the calming voice of reason...... comparing PJ to one of Eve Carson’s killers’ excuses.  “Hey, nobody’s perfect.”   THAT one moved the needle.

The Fighting Fedorians kicked Middle Something’s butt 40-20 as predicted.  The unis were “sucky” for the second game in a row.   Larry really needs to consult with me on that.

A number of incredibly rabid Tar Heels fans wore their aluminum suits and fooled all the curious ABCers watching on TV.   Works every time..... hehehehehe.

There were NO confirmed sightings of JenniferTheTutor.  Nor has there been for 3+ years now not that anyone would know.

The ChooChoo Lounge was THE place to be @ Kenan as it has become over the past few years.   #23 From Garden City and “Dashing Danny The Rocky Mount Rocket” debated the assorted myths involving Larry Miller.   I flitted about being told how much everyone enjoys these incredible columns.   Never tire from that.

BubbaTheRealAD popped in secretly admitting the CCLounge is a waaaay cooler place to be than up in the rarified “fat cat” suites.  He’s right, of course.

The Fabs were on-hand receiving multi-kudos for their incredible radio interview.   Look out for a possible DTH story on Morehead Scholar Turns Porn Star.   Whoever could have passed along that tidbit..... huuuumm.

Then On To The Carter.....

I met The Immortal at the U-Club and was chauffered over to his really really really close parking spot.  From car seat to 45 yd line East-side lower-level stadium seat was “maybe” 100 yards..... closer to 50.   Hommies Porgie & Mary Ella came by and we double-teamed New Bern-born TRBK.

NOTE:  At game end 00:00.... it took less than 15 minutes before I was motoring at 50mph on 440.   What game traffic?

True to his word, TRBK had dispatched the jackasses four rows down who used to stand-up all game and dare someone to say anything.   The presence of THE Terry Harvey musta intimidated the jackasses.  Whyever.... they weren’t there.

For all the games I’ve seen in The Carter, it dawned on me the positive difference of NOT having a track between the playing field and the stands.   That 20-30’ really enhances the closeness of fans to the action.   Duke is renovating The Wally to remove their track.   Probably impractical “Amid The Pines” but it would be nice.

Some State AD (They change ADs like most folks change socks) had the VERY smart idea of painting the seats in The Carter the same color as the shirts most Wuffs wear to the games ergo, it’s much harder to make out the empty seats.

A certain other area school might adopt that successful camouflage technique.... Bubba !!

Oh, they had’em (empty seats) especially during the first half of Quarter #3.... despite what their goobers will say.  Take THAT Coach Dave!

It was a PERFECT weather night for watching a football game.   Could not have been more perfect.  Delightfully tepid.  It was a very solid enthusiastic crowd, and quite well-behaved at least all the ones I saw.  I avoid “where the crazies go to play”.

The Wuffs pulled it out 23-21 on a buzzer-beater FG with :30 to go.   But not before some human hairball near us had pulled out a t-shirt printing machine and was churning out Dump Doeren tees.   The Bring Back Tom Reed Club was about to call an emergency meeting.   Tough crowd!

A loss to the Spiders woulda meant a rough few days for Frau.   How would she blame Swofford for a humiliating loss to a “small college”?

As it turned out Coach Dave is now THE ONLY undefeated coach in Wuff FB history.  Coach Dave and Coach David at Duke are both undefeated this season.  YOWsaaaa.  Oh, and so are my Mizzou Tigers so far.

Will Muschamp, Steve Spurrier, Mark Reicht, Brian Kelly and Lane Kiffin are NOT undefeated.    Meanwhile in the foothills of the Wausach Mountains in Provo..... Mack Brown looked like a 63 yr old man with encroaching Alzheimers and knowing there’s nothing he can do about it.

If JohnnyPunk does somehow beat ‘Bama, the Aggies might just buy out the Teasippers in Austin and turn Darrel Royal Stadium into long term parking for Kyle Field.   Ouch.

No games at Kenan or The Carter next weekend.   Then its Big Boy Football time.

“ was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair…"

Now go listen to that interview with the Fabs!

Great show with Art and Ron and the twins.....Morehead Scholar turns porn star? Howard punched out Brent?

Love the two-a-days......Remember the day/night double header with Carolina-State followed by Wake-Duke on opening day in '67.........

Back during those fun college years, my frat brother from Louisville and I went to watch Carolina play Kentucky in Kenan on a sunny Saturday afternoon (1970 I think), then hopped into the old Impala and made it to the State-Richmond game already underway in venerable City Stadium up in Richmond that evening ......Somehow the two of us found ourselves field-side sipping GatorAde amongst the State bench players and coaches and Wolfpack loyalist Charlie Ward, but the Spiders prevailed and beat the Pack that night.....

The next week we were back in Kenan watching State get drubbed by the Tar Heels 19-0 (Bill Dooley's first win over State)......Pat Korsnick, Jimbo Hardin days--Earl's last season.......Carolina's QB from North Wilksboro (slow white guy) was pretty good but not as famous as his brother singer Oliver who had a number one hit ('Jean') on Billboard in 1969.....

Comparato Twins sounded 'hot' all the way over here in Thailand....:-)

But I'm not an 18 y/o AfAm kid who can bench press a Buick. (A winner!) :-)
From Pattaya

BL: The Fabs ARE Fabulous. You woulda enjoyed the chat between Talbot and McCauley - both VERY "good guys" I'm proud to call "my friends".

Creative scheduling with schools with some tiny element of rivalry with them or A LOT as with ECU will become more prevalent in coming years as sports marketing becomes critical in filling seats.

hope the board monkeys see your comments about art and pay closer attention in the future. keep pounding on those God awful uniforms.........somebody has to wake up down there.

mack’s days are definitely numbered in austin. speaking of that, is tenuta the DC at UVA now? I know oregon is damn good, but I bet he didn’t sleep well last night.

BL: Yes, Smilin'John is Def Guru in Hoo-ville. Ruff day for D in Hoo-ville.

UNC unis do suck so far.... IMO. But I'm not an 18 y/o AfAm kid who can bench press a Buick.

Board Monkeys NEVER learn.

I also took in two games on Saturday. One being my son's JV game (a rare Saturday matchup of two private schools in Raleigh) and the game at Carter-Finley (not fond of "The Carter" phrase). I found it interesting that BotBOB decided to attend his son's football game (his son and mine play on the same JV team) instead of hanging out in his lofty perch in the Blue Zone.

I am glad to hear you had a good time at the State game. It was a bit too close for my taste, but it was a wonderful night for football and we stayed until the bitter end. The State kicker who ruined Richmond's evening is a friend of my son's and we were not worried at all about the outcome coming down to his leg. Very sorry to see the injury to Nick Ritcher (Outland Trophy Jim's son) and I am hearing it is not a good outcome.

You did best our family on getting out of the stadium after the game. It took us about 20 minutes, but that is not all that bad considering the number of people who stayed until the end. Please come back again some time and I hope all of your visits are enjoyable.

BL: B'rer Kennel's hospitality is always Top-Notch. Mega Convenient!

Absolutely Perfect evening to enjoy a game!

Tell BOTBob that BobLee says Hi.... then you better duck! I ain't on his "Friends" list. :-)

All is well in Austin. Mack has fired another DC whom he hired two years ago. Expect an immediate reversal as he has hired Greg Robinson as a replacement. Word from my Horn boosters is that The Politician is grateful to Greg for the valentines received each year.

None confuse Mack's fire with Nick's. His teams at Texas play soft except for the team of eight years ago which was loaded with leadership, especially the night that they surrounded three coaches, including Mack, and told them to move back and they will win him and them a NC. Hard to believe? Not if you have been a Horn fan all of these years to watch the seal clapper on the sidelines who always plays his favorites.

Many future NFL players have stayed away from Austin as they have stated that Mack could only coach them down.

If you find the statement difficult to believe, look it up. Adrian Peterson is a good place to begin.

Last night was another reason to understand why the majority of the nation cheered when an old Howard Cosell decked Musburger for the ten count in a Big City restaurant years ago.

Johnny Jerk was 1-2 versus Florida, LSU, and Bama last year. Just a thought. The young man is a tremendous player. I'll leave it at that. The sure thing for this game is that the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band will put on another great show. As for the game? The Aggie fans will cause fits for the Tide. The Twelfth Man is something else. The midnight yell session should easily top 50,000 I am told. Ags already have game won.

BL: The Eyes of much more than Texas will be on Kyle Field next Saturday.

Mack has become the portrait of Dorian Gray the past three years... aging so before our eyes. Put him out of his misery.

As I stated to a few folks and in a few places, it DEFINITELY was a Tale of TWO Stadii (sp?). I had to attend my GD's soccer game Saturday morning and also mow the yard as we had guests coming in. The temps were about 15 dF cooler and humidity was probably 20% lower. I watched the first quarter of Larry's boys toying with MTSU. If you noted such, the visitor's side AT KICKOFF at Keenan had FEWER fans than did CF LAST WEEK at the beginning of the second half. It really surprised me that the UNC faithful would not show up for a cupcake game when it was MUCH cooler than the week before. I would have thought there would have been a "Movement".
I DO agree that it was a tale of Two Stadii. The Wuffies hit the boards and also the email lists. Debbie jumped in and had her staff take the comments seriously. The PA system was re-balanced and was considerably more "crisp" and the volume was lowered to a level that permitted conversation. In addition, the content was changed and more reflected the demographics of the crowd. The East Jumbotron Computer had it's software glitches taken care of it performed flawlessly. The free stadium cups are still there....but we're working on that.
Howsomever.....The lads dressed in Red and White appeared to be still miffed over the voids in the East Stand. They did not perform as gallantly as the did last week. Several of the fans shouted loud "Challenges" to Coach D as he left the field at the house. They promised to be in the stands, but he had to bring in a REAL football team.
Obviously he took them seriously and the Defense ramped it up....however, we pulled our best Philip Rivers & Russell Wilson imitation and toyed with the Spiders for most of the second half. It was only in the last 2 minutes that we declared Nick Sade to be our HERO and he booted the winning field goal.....a slice or a hook would have obviously been very UGLY....
Glad you have a good time at CF....great place for a FB game and the home of the best fans in the Triangle....

BL: The Jumbo in the End Zone was incredibly clear and HD.... as it should be at night. Perfect weather for Sept night game.

I hear Frau was giving out "two-fers" and free samwiches to any warm bodies to fill the place. That true?

If the FG had missed, the Dump Doeren drumbeat would have begun; but it didn't. DD survives. :-)
9/8/2013 9:29:29 PM

Too bad they're getting rid of the track at Wally. Some great track meets were there over the years.

BL: Duke Track Coach Legend Al Buehler is one of THE REALLY NICE GUYS. Yes, he and Dr LeRoy Walker brought many top track events to The Wally over the years.
9/8/2013 8:29:18 PM

OK.... what are the odds now we EVER see a verified pic of JennyTutor?

BL: The Sports Book at Caesars has it at 70% YES we will..... "someday".
9/8/2013 8:19:24 PM

You do realize that yesterday's game at Carter Finley was optional in the season ticket package, right? I know a lot of people who demurred from paying $40 a butt to see a 1-AA team. Can't blame them, usually those are snoozefests that exist mainly to soak the season-ticket holder rather than be a competitive game. Turned out that is was one heckuva competitive game.

BL: Yes, I learned all that via TRBK. Creative marketing is the order of the day in selling seats.

EVERY school better be doing it.
9/8/2013 8:16:25 PM

The Wuff Game was a bizarre affair. I wasn't sure if some of my new found meds had me tripping back and forth between realities or in and out of present time.
At one point I was sure that I had time warped back to 2004 and Chuckie's Boyz were out on the turf doing dumb things and getting penalties. She Who Must Be Obeyed assured me I was still watching D-Squared Team in 2013.
Not being sure of any side effects of these meds, I had to ask SWMBO if time was progressing in normal 60 second to the minute intervals. Again, she assured me I was fine.
That was the slowest hurry up offense I've ever seen.
Two more rounds of meds before Clemson. No telling what I'll think I'm seeing by then.

BL: The history books record "STATE WON".... and so it was writ. At least DD did not "pull an Akron" like Chuck did.
