Who Killed PlottHound… and Why

AP logo

I don’t know Who Shot Liberty Valance or Who Killed Cock Robin? … but I can and I will tell you…

Who Killed CarolinaPlottHound.com

If you don’t know anything about the website CarolinaPlotthound.com not much of this will mean anything to you. But The How & What that killed that popular website likely will happen again to other Not-Liberal media platforms. So What Happened to Plotthound matters. It matters A LOT.

CarolinaPlotthound.com (CPH) was an aggregate website started in 2012 by two fine gentlemen Paul Chesser and Chad Adams. Paul & Chad are staunch Conservatives and the tone of the website was decidedly Not-Liberal.

Upside down CPH

Aggregate website means Like The Drudge Report. The website was a page full of current/recent hyperlinks to other websites… both formal media and blog sites. No original articles ever appeared on CPH. It was 100% link to other sites.

Those linked sites would often include notoriously radical-left-wing media such as Jim Goodmon’s WRAL and The N&O, Charlotte Observer, GSBO N&R, et al. If Paul Chesser thought an article was of interest to CPH visitors he posted it.

This Site and BobLeeSays.com were regularly linked on CPH along with Mike Adams, Lady Liberty, Mark Creech, and many other very fine folks.

All of us are still flourishing with our strong corps of viewers. CPH directed views were appreciated but certainly not critical to any of us..

No one paid to be posted and no one was ever paid to produce content for the site. The site’s revenue came thru GoogleAds based on viewership.

CPH’s primary focus was on North Carolina politics… local and regional. There was no other comparable website to CPH. The website grew exponentially over the past 5 years as a place to come to know where to go for news and opinions.

I don’t know how many daily hits CPH was getting when it was KILLED; but it’s popularity grew to where Jim Goodmon’s dumpster-diving goons wanted it shut down.

Chris Fitzsimon and his little henchman Rob Schofield (a.k.a “Bert & Ernie”) are paid by Jim Goodmon and other left-wing funding sources to write hard-core liberal attack pieces against all things Republican /Conservative. There is nothing illegal about Jim Goodmon doing that.

Nor is there anything illegal about the people Art Pope pays to write hard-core Conservative articles against all things Democrat / Liberal.

It’s how Barnyard Politics is played. Be careful where you step.

Capital Broadcasting/WRAL’s Jim Goodmon also funds a funky cable TV show – NC Spin – moderated by his longtime boyhood friend Tom Campbell. The format involves Campbell and four “political hacks” debating political issues du jour.

Think Wayne World’s without the class and talents of Mike Myers and Dana Carvey.

Wayne's World

Two of those hacks are permanent panelists – Chris Fitzsimon and John Hood.

John Hood is long time consigliere and Boy Friday to Art Pope. Hood has oversight over assorted Pope quasi-political ventures including the John Locke Foundation, Civitas and various others. John Hood

Despite NC Spin having VERY modest ratings/ viewership, John Hood has boasted that he is North Carolina’s Most Famous Conservative via his weekly appearances on the glorified CCTV production.  Not sure if Hood sees himself as “Wayne” or “Garth”.

“Boasting” is one of John Hood’s most-notable talents. Having Art Pope’s ear and thereby controlling who gets an audience with the political financier is how most people know John Hood… and why people pretend to like John Hood.

One local political pundit said recently “When John Hood grows up, he wants to be Bill Kristol”. Bill Kristol is a notorious Washington Neo-Con (??) and founder of The American Standard newsletter.

Both Kristal and Hood are outspoken Trump-haters within their respective spheres of influence. Hood’s sphere being considerably smaller than Kristal’s. Both men’s spheres are shrinking by the day.

Kristal and Hood dwell gleefully in “The Swamp” which Donald Trump has promised to drain, thereby earning Bill and John’s eternal hatred.

Have you guessed:  Who Killed Plotthound… and Why?”
Have I been too subtle?

Fitzsimon / Schofield wanted CPH KILLED because it had become a very effective Anti-Liberal media conduit. To destroy and discredit Anti-Liberal media is why Goodmon employs them. I don’t fault them for “wanting CPH killed”.

If you ask why a media mogul such as Jim Goodmon would oppose a free and open press/media you don’t understand Liberal Media at all.

Liberalism cannot withstand being exposed to The Light of Truth via any non-sycophant media. Goodmon, The Southern Poverty Law Center and the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, all well-known radical liberal financing entities, wanted CPH KILLED and told Fitzsimon to make it happen.

In his little newsletter, Fitzsimon accused CPH of being RACIST (yawn) for linking to an article by a Greensboro-area blogger that said NCAG Josh Stein, who is Jewish, is Jewish??

They also referenced a column yours truly posted last year about The N&O canning one of its three prominent AfAm staffers. Here’s the LINK to that one in case you missed it.

CPH was, at the time of its unfortunate demise, being subsidized by Civitas, an Art Pope entity.  Fitzsimon, in a classic liberal tactic, implied clumsily that Civitas must therefore be RACIST too.

His attack stopped just short of “Art Pope probably owns slaves”. Again, typical liberal attack strategy.

What Chris Fitzsimon says about anything is irrelevant to all but his little gaggle of newsletter disciples.

EXCEPT… that he and Jim Goodmon control John Hood’s all-important TV exposure. VOILA!

Hood exerted his Pope “muscle” – if you knew Hood you would see the humor in that word choice – to force the Civitas Board to KILL CPH.

In addition to his precious TV exposure, Hood also hated the fact that CPH was postinHood dancingg links to pro-Trump articles. Remember… Hood, a hard-line “Swamp Rat”, despises all things Trump despite NC being a strong Pro-Trump state.

John Hood orchestrated The Killing of Plotthound

…to give him more control of what media North Carolina Conservatives have easy access to. Think about that the next time Hood comes to you for a donation.

Several entities expressed interest in buying the website from Civitas or at least buying the URL to direct viewers to a totally new Anti-Liberal aggregate website.

Even that possibility was KILLED supposedly under fear that the Fitzsimon Attack Machine (??) would still blame Civitas/Pope for anything on the website.

John Hood and his little debate chum Fitzsimon continue to have their weekly nerf fights in NC Spin’s sandbox to an audience of 100s… and CarolinaPlotthound.com is dead.

You just never know what the future will bring. If you visit THIS SITE and DailyHaymaker.com and listen to Chad Adams’ Internet/Radio show you’ll be among the first to know whatever it might be.

FORWARD THIS TO FIVE (5) FRIENDS who enjoyed Plotthound and might be curious what happened to it.

###

The irony in the above is… that Jim Goodmon is reportedly tired of throwing his $$$ down the NC Spin rat-hole… and also sick of seeing John Hood’s face on his TV station.  NC Spin’s days are numbered according to an “inside WRAL source”.

Was following Hood on FB. He was always spouting off how his family came over on Mayflower and then try to impress followers with some arcane legislation a relative wrote. He’s really just the little big mouth sporting a bow tie in front of Poli Sci class.

A very apt and colorful description of John Hood. My personal favorite was “a pusillanimous little piss ant” but I really like yours. The feckless nerd that ran for student government in Junior High… and still lists that on his resume.

“In his little newsletter, Fitzsimon accused CPH of being RACIST (yawn) for linking to an article by a Greensboro-area blogger that said NCAG Josh Stein, who is Jewish, is Jewish??”

I’d submit that this is a overly-charitable synopsis of the blog post (which also linked to even-more antisemitic post).
I saw the link at CPH that day. I read it the blog post. And I immediately called it antisemitic. Because it was.
It didn’t simply note Stein is Jewish. It clumsily attempted to tie Stein to the all-controlling JOOOOOS. It had no proof or evidence of anything except that Stein is Jewish. It was ridiculous.

It was an awful decision to link that site.
Aggregation sites have to make judgement calls about what to link. And this was a very bad decision.

Francis DeLuca’s statement seemed to blame an employee for making it, and he hinted that there were other questionable decisions made by this person in the past, as well.

Still, I WAS surprised to see it shuttered. I cannot speak to any of the machinations & motives outlined in this post, as I have no evidence who did what. I’m open to hearing such evidence, if any is presented.

I was a long-time reader, promoter, and supporter of Plotthound. I had blog posts linked there and was permanently-linked on the blog roll. I interviewed Paul Chesser numerous times over the years, and have always respected the work he’s done. The CPH shutdown was an over-reaction, I think. But I’ll not minimize the egregiousness of the offense.

I’d note that the CarolinaPlotthound.com domain was registered in Dec. 2016. If they purchased a one-year registration, it will be coming up for renewal soon.

I know nothing about TriadConservative… no “who” “what” “why”. Since one of my old columns was also included in the Fitzsimon/Campbell attack on CI/CPH I chose to focus on that one. Yes, a poor judgement call by whoever was selecting links that day… no clue how they made such decisions, or how Paul used to when he ran CPH.
      .
I always told Paul (and Francis) that if any BL or AP columns were “too provocative”, it would not hurt my feelings at all to not link to them. As I assume with you, there was no obligation or even verbal agreement to EVER post links to my site. Whether anyone w/ CI read my column before linking to them, I have no clue. … Same with yours or with who/what TriadConservative is. …. I usually got several 100s views via CPH links which were certainly appreciated but not critical to my overall #views.
      .
There is no question that Hood engineered the shutdown and the decision not to release the URL… or to let it redirect CPH readers to a new site. My sources on that are solid for the reasons I note.
      .
If/When a new version of CPH is available (I know of at least one legitimate ongoing effort to do so) it will be up to the “Not-Liberal” blog-community to get the word out. We are not by nature a cohesive bunch as there is a lot of “turf protective” and individual desires to be THE leader of the Repub/Conserv blogger pack. … yawn. I suppose that is preferable to being all fed talking points by a central “Mr Big”.

If Triad Conservative had used the term ‘committed leftist’ rather than Reform Jew, the article would have been on target. Thus his sin was using a ethnic subset rather than the movement as a whole, when discussing the damaging cultural effects of a the movement currently rampaging through this country.

In contrast the left consistently uses ethnic or racial subsets to advance in their march toward their version of utopia, i.e. social justice. We and even they know that their ultimate utopia will be hell on earth for most people, but if we say so, we had better cover all the bases, lest we be RACIST! Funny isn’t it.

Here’s a typical article of Reform Jewish politics. https://www.charismanews.com/politics/opinion/65784-reform-judaism-is-being-ruined-by-politics

The Locke Foundation is worthless. They have not produced any conservative results in NC in at least a decade. And yet it is the only place where people on the right have to donate money. Locke goes through millions a year and there are no results. It is time to cut them off. Stop supporting them. Stop going to their events. Stop reading their drivel on the internet. Money needs to be raised to get Plotthound up and running again. Who’s in?

I have zero practical experience, but I always wondered that an aggregate site must be very inexpensive to get up and running. Something that someone with a news fetish could probably help, along with a few other trusted like-minded folks. I stumbled onto CPH trying to find a Drudge-like news place in SC. The firewalls have made it worse the wear to peruse the rags for stories that interest you.
    .
Locke’s sites lost value years ago, are they still on going? When they folded like a paper tent when Tara Servatius blogged for them, I knew they were spineless.

Various templates for an “Aggregate site” (Drudge-like) are readily available. The staffing involves dedicated team of 2-3 folks to “mine the Internet” thru the day and early evening to stay current on “happenings” and on interesting blog sites being updated. Ideally the body of the site is evolving thru the day as CPH readers tended to revisit several times/day for fresh content. The main headline at the top might stay constant if it was BIG NEWS… as it does with Drudge.
      .
With BobLee and I, we would email CPH with links when we posted new columns. CPH was never under ANY obligation to post anything we submitted but pretty much always did because our links always drew click traffic. CPH visitors saw our avatars and went to them. “Moths to The Flame” !!! I’m not sure how other bloggers cooperated but assume it was similar. Nothing was ever edited or redacted in anything we sent. No $$$ ever changed hands. CPH wanted interesting content and every blogger wants maximum traffic to his/her site. The Internet “miners” need some compensation which is where the funding comes in.
      .
CPH drew revenue from GoogleAds just as BLSays.com does based on monthly views. A site needs in excess of 100,000 / month to make significant $$$. Drudge gets millions of views. I believe CPH also had some individual regional advertiser buys during election season.
      .
Anyone interested in funding or staffing can contact us here and we will forward info to those trying to pull this together… agentpierce@agentpiercesaid.com OR boblee@bobleesays.com

I’ll go you one better… sort of. I know a local “mover shaker” who was at Duke when Goodmon was. Quote… “He isn’t very smart… never was”. If I’m not mistaken, Goodmon did not graduate from Duke. I don’t know the details. He inherited CBC from his Uncle and it “printed $$$” for 30 years.
      .
The details on his “Road To Damascus” conversion to Acute Limo Liberalitis are sketchy but reports usually included his wife Barbara having a great deal of influence in that “conversion” about a dozen years ago. As with many “conversions” he became A ZEALOT and remains so today. When the Repubs gained majority in The NCGA, Goodmon hired a special Dumpster-diving “Goon Squad” to dig up any dirt they could… real or imagined on any/all high profile Repubs in NC. Fitzsimon is a part of the “goon squad”.
      .
Via his “AJ Fletcher Foundation” Goodmon funnels $$$ to Rev “Bully Barber’s Hoot & Hates. It was a Goodmon ‘Stooge” Peter Anlyan that created the infamous “… at least 80,000… maybe more” for Barber’s first Rally about 7-8 years ago. That bald-faced MEGA LIE lives on today in every Barber’s resume read. … Quite a legacy for Jimbo.

J G purchased automation equipment and computers to eliminate several high paid round the clock employees in Master Control. So he was an original “outsourcer”. What about a fair and living wage?

As far as NC Spin…I was wondering why Campbell had now started announcing that this is show # XYZ in each episode. I will now stop watching all together, I had gotten to where I fast forwarded through the Blinky talking points and Doofus Edmisten talking time. Once I fast forwarded the commercials that only left about five minutes anyway.

CPH was my primary news feed for local news. I miss it. I abandoned Civitas and John Locke about the same time I left the GOP. They were all going down a road that leads nowhere.
