This College Basketball Scandal:

Why America Doesn’t Really Care.

Lordy Lordy… here at SaidWhatMedia’s World HQ, me and BobLee AND Blondie are busier than three one-armed paper hangars in a Cat-4 hurricane of column fodder. We never had such a Fodder Tsunami until Blondie got her own page… I’m just sayin’

“The Legend” is dealin’out the topics to insure we’re covering all the Juiciest of All The Juicy Glorious Messes falling like manna from the heavens this week. I drew the College Basketball Crap-Storm.

Blondie got Hef Died. She has a GREAT LINE she got from blogger JoBangles:

He (Hugh Hef) sat around all day in his pajamas looking at pictures of naked girls. RIP to “The Original Millennial”. … We have Our Winner!

BL’s current piece comparing The NFL to Otis Day’s Night Club is already on its way to the Wise Guys With Websites Hall of Fame. They call him “a Legend” for A Reason.

“They” are saying this is THE BIGGEST scandal to hit Major College Basketball since…What comes after “since…” depends on how old the “they” are.

If Jack Molinas’ name is in there, “they” remember when Madison Square Garden was actually in Madison Square… and not on top of Penn Station.

If Sam Gilbert’s name is mentioned “they” can name all three of Ben Cartwright’s sons from oldest to youngest.

If “they” can spell “Golenbock”, the name Claude Sitton gives them acute indigestion.

If you say Myron Pigge and “they” say Corey Maggette, “they” recall Y2K. Myron Pigge

If you say “P.J. & Fats Thomas”, “they” have better memories than Roy does. Roy’s already deleted them from his mind.

So you see… BIGGEST EVER depends on the size of one’s ever-verse.

Unless you live in Puerto Rico this week… you are getting whiplash trying to stay up-to-date between NFL – TRUMP – COLIN – OH MY!… and SLICK RICK IS GONE… WHO WILL BE NEXT?

If you are still stuck in Kathy Griffin DID WHAT or WHO IS JEMELE you need to upgrade that flip phone to at least an IPhone 4 or 5 minimum.

100% of College Basketball fans who are NOT totally degenerate Louisville fat cats / fan monkeys are THRILLED that…

That duplicious vampire known as Rick Pitino has been strapped into “Old Sparky”. The L-ville interim Prez will officially throw the switch next week… and then enter WITSEC to protect him from those afore-mentioned L-Ville degenerates.

Zapping Rick AND AD “Terrible Tom” Jurich means Louisville’s Three Very Corrupt Stooges is reduced to just one –  Bobby Pitrino.

Allowing that Slick Rick was especially loathsome… any of a dozen other High-Profile MCBB HCs COULD BE NEXT.

“They” all knew about the shoe pay-off scams. Whether they benefitted by getting one/more or not… they ALL knew about it and they ALL know who the shadow people are.

Assuming you are a hard-core college BB fan… You will giggle, snort and dance a jig as each high profile coach is frog-marched out of his leather-covered lair in shackles and stuffed into the backseat of a black SUV with tinted windows… UNLESS…

UNLESS… IT IS YOUR GUY! Then you will wail and cry and wail and cry some more in futile protest… NO NO NO NO… MY Guy is Innocent… All Those Other Guys Are Crooked… NOT MY GUY!

We could call that Acute Kennelitis. But let’s not.

I saw one comment that Roy will plead his innocence because… Roy Mad

Dadgummit, I haven’t signed a 5-star since Harrison Barnes because of all that “junk”… and, of course, Trump… and HB2 too”.

BUT Roy has visited and tried his dadgum best to sign every 5-Star ”youngster” that went elsewhere… so ROY KNOWS.

MikeK has, of course, signed a WHOLE BUNCHA 5-STARS EVERY YEAR. I guess his defense will be…

…all those 5-stars simply wanted to spend the 1.5 semesters of their college career in Beautiful West Derm.

Or Mike will take another back surgery sabbatical and let Jeff Capel twist in the wind. Unless he can find Pete Gaudet again. Pete will always “take a bullet” for K.

I PREDICT a maximum of two more Big Name Coaches will go down… one will be Auburn’s Bruce Pearl. Pick another one NOT named Calipari. A handful of Whozit coaches will be thrown into The Volcano just to get the death count looking good.

Why THIS will not destroy College BB As We Know It… is:

America likes College Basketball too much…

to change it.

Just like America likes strip clubs… and certain recreational drugs… and dirty movies on HBO and Showtime… and The Kardashians… and NFL Cheerleaders… and fully automatic rifles… and cars that can go 100+ MPH… and the high fat content of 5” high cheeseburgers with six strips of bacon… and humongous chocolate desserts… and HDTVs the size of a See Rock City sign on a barn roof.

“America Knows” all of those are decadent just as “America knows” big time major college basketball is dirtier than a hobo’s underwear.  Catchy phrase.  Where did I see that?

Everybody but clueless little chancellors from Dartmouth with lapel ribbons KNOW and have ALWAYS KNOWN that BTMCBB has been dirty for over 60 years… and has been TOXIC for the past 20 years.

If you ask most die-hard college BB fans why they don’t care that the whole sport is so corrupt, the “honest ones” will say something to the effect that…

It’s just a buncha black kids.  Who cares?

That, sadly, may be the ONLY thing that liberal and conservative basketball fans do agree on… kinda scary… huh?… AND that may be the saddest reality to come out of this.

This week’s kerfluffle got Rick fired so it was “a good thing”. Take down a 3-4 more… BUT DON”T TAKE DOWN MY GUY. Whatever you do… leave Our Dirty Guy Who Knows alone… UNLESS he loses three-in-a-row in December in which case you can have his sorry lying *ss too.

Apparently Dick Vitale was as clueless as Chancellor Chihuahua about “all of this”. Which earns Dickie V the coveted Bill Clinton Award for Trust Me The General Public IS That Gullible.

OK… I’m the grand master of obtuse references but “Sonny Liston” ?? Sure I remember “Sonny” and the classic “Cassius Taunts Fallen Sonny” photo … Lewiston ME … et al … but where is the Kevin Bacon connection to Rick Pitino and Dick Vitale?

Sonny was not the Chosen One of the Civil Rights folks. There is a lot of evidence to lead one to the belief that the Ali fight was rigged and Sonny took a dive. After the fight, the corruption in boxing saw the light of day, and Don King rose to lead the parade. King took the fifth when asked about his connection to Gotti. The NCAA is rife with corruption, and everyone knows it. I saw the alumni of the university I went to buy a BMW convertible for a player who shall remain nameless. This scandal won’t bring down college ball, and more than Liston’s dive did, but it will bring out the touts.

OK… now I see. As “America” becomes more/more addicted to our “bread & circus”, we care less and less about “how our sausage is made”. We just want more and more of it….
          .
I see that cartoon of Pogo Possum and Albert Alligator sitting on a log as Pogo laments “… seen the enemy and he is us.” … FWIW, Walt Kelly drew that carton over 50 years ago.

I will go along with the bread and circuses analogy as it applies to the mob, but the NCAA, the NBA, the NFL, and other major sports are dying a slow death. Fewer kids play organized sports every year, and fewer families hover around the TV every holiday. The internet has made it so that you can watch what you want, when you want. Once that disconnect from central planning of broadcast schedules began, it was the beginning of the end. No longer do people organize their evenings and weekends around TV broadcasts. If the statists had foreseen this they would have blocked DARPA from ever making the internet public. Now they make pitiful attempts at “net neutrality” and “fake news”, but the servers are not under local control anymore, and you can retrieve any piece of information you care to look for. There is a growing industry to make the dark web more user friendly. The genie is out of the bottle.

Too many genies escaping from too many bottles. If I was 20 years younger I might seriously “leave the grid”.

Well, I helped build the backbone of fiber networks that support the internet. That was twenty years ago. Between that and another kind of education from the Navy, I am very careful about what goes in and out of my home, car, etc. I have tempest protocols in certain spaces where even the power is converted to DC and back to AC to prevent certain types of monitoring. I have no smart appliances, and segregated the communications systems in my car from the operating circuits. Anything with a black box gets a new flash program. My phone has been modified to remove the GPS system. There are other things I can do, but haven’t. The next car I but will take a lot of work to cut the comms free of the control system, but it’s worth it. You can disappear from the grid, but it is difficult, time-consuming, and expensive. I’m just trying to raise the bar enough to make any attempt to get in more visible to me.

            I keep a short-barrel Mossberg 12g by my bedside.

Use No.4 shot. Better spread inside, and doesn’t kill your neighbors or blow through gas lines. Fletchettes are best, but hard to get. I’m not making a serious attempt to keep a secure system in place, but only to raise the cost of doing business and limit the field. Keeping the NSA out would be prohibitively expensive and draw other kinds of scrutiny. The real problem will be that what the NSA can do now will be available to others in a few years. Everyone from corporations to organized crime are getting into this game. I still buy CD’s and DVD’s not only because large file downloads are a vehicle into my systems, but because one day those songs and movies may not be available online. Any document I use as a resource I make a hard copy of. All of the data out there is vulnerable to manipulation, and the window for some of it is closing. Right now I can download all of the resource material for my lifelong study of naval warfare, but one day things like ballistics and explosive properties will be flagged. The records concerning armor performance and torpedo resistance of hulls are still out there, but that will change.

Years ago in college Dickie v was taking questions from students about all things mbb. This was the height of unlv and the scandal du jour was a shady Richard “the fixer” Perry having very close access to the players.
    .
He had just defended those poor, poor used players. When I asked how any team could let someone like that close, he went full Sgt Schultz. “Im not sure who you’re talking about”. You know, the guy from the SI catalog who’s been in trouble for shaving points and was in a hot tub with Anderson Hunt.
    .
I realized he was basketball’s caffeinated Larry King from that point on. Some corn pone insight into the pasta habits of italian coaches and not much else. Has zero in common with a 19 yo AfAm.

He advanced his own career as the “Dickie V” persona by shilling for the coaches. IMO he became a human cartoon 20 years ago. NEVER ONCE pointing out the hypocrisy of the system much less its abject corruption.

The first issue of Playboy featured Marilyn Monroe. After that it went downhill.
    .
The best line I heard about Hef’s death was,” This is as stiff as Hef has been in 40 years!”
    .
After Vic Bubas ,Lefty Driesell and Bones McKinney stopped coaching in the ACC I stopped watching and have no real interest in basketball.

But A LOT of people apparently still do watch College BB and Playboy… but not all that many remember Vic Bubas.
