April 5,’13:  Over 50 years and not one fist fight.  Not even one F-bomb.  Over 300 mixed partisans of assorted sports allegiances and not one pair of beady eyes glared back at me.... not one set of clenched teeth.  I’d like to say it was me what created such a harmonious environment but I was merely a beneficiary of this den of anachronistic civility.  BobLee and The Raleigh Sports Club.... a synergy like blackstrap molasses on a warm biscuit......

April 2,’13:  America’s insatiable appetite for bestowing 15 minutes of celebrity chewed up how many “cinderellas” over the past two weeks..... how many eccentric players from Mississippi..... how many hottie coaches’ wives and player mammas..... how many obscure little schools..... devouring them like so many Fritos and cashews..... yum yum eat’em up.  With one week left in this annual all-you-wanna-eat 15 minutes of insta-fame buffet the current media obsession atop the leader board is....... “a broken leg” !!!!

March 28,’13:  Roy Clogston never did "it".  Willis Casey, Jimmy V, Toddy, Les, even Uncle Jed never did “it”.  On Tuesday, Kay Yow’s sister Frau became the FIRST NC State Athletics Director to ever fire a women’s basketball coach.  Yes..... Kellie Harper is now “that pretty blond lady that used to coach the Lady Wuff basketball team”..... But Kellie may not be the only Wuff cage coach to be leaving West Raleigh..... and over in Derm, Chrissie Collins heads home to ChicagoLand.....

March 25,’13:  It was “the black Jeff Withey” (aka Wilt Chamberlain) that said “no one pulls for Goliath”.  The purest joy in sports, or any competitive venture, is when an underdog rises up to smite the giant.  Undersized, outmanned, and so much the long shot the oddsmakers don’t even give odds.... and yet there is little David standing atop the smited giant.... and there is Bill Cowher pulling for Duke.... SAY WHAT ??

March 18,’13:  71 fan bases across America all agree that..... “we got jobbed by those damned NCAA selection guys”.   They each have a mathematical opportunity to be 2013 National Champions, but will squander that joy by whining “we got put in the hardest bracket – UNFAIR whaaa!” .....
