No Heavier Burden Than.....

Nov 5, ’12:  Legendary cartoonist / “life coach” Charles Schulz, via Linus Van Pelt, reminded us “There is no heavier burden than a great potential.”  Schulz should be the featured speaker each year at the I Wanna Be A Big Time Football Coach convention.  Aspirants need reminding that their chosen path is both lonely and fraught with many perils.  Just ask Les, Lane..... and a certain ruddy-faced Marine.....

AP: Stevie The Whiffenpoof's Last Peep

Oct 30; ’12:  The N&O Op/Ed Editor Stevie “Whiffenpoof” Ford is going bye bye after close to 20 years pecking out his hard-core liberal extremist opinions & editorials.  Going out with a whimper, not with a bang.  Give the beady-eyed little rascal his due.... his last peep is the same ol’ Far Left song he’s been squawking all those 20 years.

Raleigh’s McClatchy franchise – The News & Observer – continues to hemorrhage red ink out it’s wazoo.  Subscribers and advertisers are leaving faster than State fans after Gio’s punt return.  What to do?  What to do?

Move Over Choo Choo!

.... Oct 27, ’12:   Outlined against a blue-gray October sky.... a courageous young stallion (in a chrome helmet) galloped into history amid Kenan’s lofty pines.

AP: Like A Flock of Seagulls

Oct 26, ’12:  The Democrat hierarchy were hoping for another three weeks before the odor of financial garbage leftover from OccupyCharlotte wafted into public nostrils.  ...... Democrats are “like a flock of seagulls”.  They arrive amid a lot of flapping wings and flapping lips.  They squawk and cackle and strut (lots of strutting).  They crap all over everything.  Then they fly away accepting absolutely no responsibility for the mess they always leave behind......

If ______, So what?

...... Oct 25, ’12:  I’ve received a number of inquiries this week concerning the lack of the usual sophomoric / infantile / nitwit “bantering” that usually precedes “a big rivalry game”.   I replied that I’m sure the respective toxic waste sites would be overflowing with their usual effluent.  The “real world” (a relative term) is pre-occupied with another upcoming partisan battle of slightly greater magnitude.  .......

The Perfect Ending To......

.... Oct 22, ’12:  Where have I been?  Right here but distracted by a GREAT BOOK and assorted diversions of minimal but distractionary importance.  Some of you get concerned and fret for my wellbeing.  I appreciate your fretations.  I’m fine. ..... which is better than can be said for a certain beleaguered alma mater.  The Lyonnais potatoes in the Duke Press Box were terrific but the night as a whole not so good.......

"....a surprisingly good school."

...... Oct 15, ’12:  At a dinner party recently, I engaged a UNC PhD candidate who noted, with noticeable surprise, that "NC State has a surprisingly good engineering program”.  Duh! Really !!  I did not further inquire as to his opinion on the future of mankind or his favorite Bond Girl.   It did cause me to ruminate upon “what makes ‘a good school’” and “says who?”..... and Week Seven in review.
