March 11,’13:  EVERY Wednesday of Thanksgiving Week your local TV station(s) sends a junior info-babe to the airport for their annual “busiest airport day” story.   Sports has its equivalent.  EVERY regular season finale UNC-Duke game we get the “Dookie V” article.  ..... Is Dick Vitale UNC fans’ version of what John Swofford is for Wuffs?

March 7,’13:  We shall leave Dean’s eternal destiny to a Higher Power.   Such hypotheticals could take us in any number of socio-cultural directions well beyond theology.   It’s 2013.   Issues are no longer easily compartmentalized within well-defined topics – sports – politics – religion - pop culture – academia – ecology.   And another thing......

March 3, ’13:  Sometimes its not what you hear but the circumstances in which you hear it.  A provocative question was posed recently in an assemblage of polite gentlemen a mile north of Franklin Street.  Had it been asked  anywhere else it would not have produced the same Hang On Sloopy reaction -   Will Dean Smith Go To Hell? ...... AND we also address “a wildfire rumor”.

March 1,’13:  How about this.  Every college campus in America to appoint a Vice Chancellor of “I Told You So”.  The position will be mandatory for all state liberal arts institutions and all snooty private schools.   Optional for land grant schools with tangential relationships with reality.... but strongly recommended.  A modified version of VCoITYS will be available for local school boards.  It’s a game-changer concept. .... - READ MORE!

Feb 28, ’13:   “Dragons live forever but not so little boys”.   Puff’s lament in The Land of Honalee has resurfaced with “Little Jackie Papers” of my generation.   We (Baby) Boomers are into that time-honored tradition - reflecting upon the seminal moments of our life journeys.  I’ve always hung with a “jock” crowd so our reflections usually involve “a coach” either positively or not so positively.  A mythical figure who - like Puff - “lives forever”....

Feb 28,’13:  I have not jumped into the “Great Unpleasantness” at UNC because..... because BobLee has done such an absolutely incredible job chronicling it from Tweet One three years ago.   When BobLee “explains it” the rest of us just say “yeah, me too”. ... Feb 25, ’13:  Oh come on man!  You knew today had to be about “Danica”.  She has attained one-word name icon status and it’s NOT going to be “D-Pat”.   I watched the last 50 laps of The Danica 500 but I did not watch a single second of The Oscars.  What does that say about me being a canary in a coalmine about the viewing preferences of America?  Damn little I suspect. .......

Feb 26, ’13:  I used an analogy recently that my ideal political scenario was “gridlock” – aka “stuck on the side of the road with two flats and one spare” while both sides scream themselves hoarse blaming the other.  That struck a cord with many of you.  I am a registered Republican because the only viable alternative is the intellectual equivalent of “poking myself in the eye with a long-handled barbecue fork”.   Who in their right mind would opt for that?...... - READ MORE
