Abiding….
When I was little, I went to a Lutheran school. Part of that education was singing hymns daily in class. Can you imagine?? But, yes it is true.
We would pull out our dark blue Lutheran Hymnals, we each had our very own stashed in our desks. The teacher would call on one person to pick the hymn. So, of course, we all wanted to make the selection.
I always picked the hymn below. Which, when I read the words now, as an adult, amazes me as it is such a somber song for a third grader. I loved it though. I loved the melody, the old fashion words and how they went together.
For some reason, it popped into my head tonight…and it is still one of my favorite hymn.
It is a comfort. It was when I was 8 years old and still is at… …well, you get the point. And that is exactly what these old songs have been doing for generations, providing comfort.
